Solved my HP Laptop Overheating Problem
By Jack J. Calo
I’ve got an HP Pavilion Laptop that for a good 6-7 months, has started overheating and shutting down unexpectedly! As time went on, the problem actually got worse, shutting down without notice literally several times a day! I went through many troubleshooting steps to address this problem. Then finally came across this product to try out.SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE, NICE DESIGN! And… after a month of using it, my laptop has NOT overheated or shut down unexpectedly anymore.I was so happy with it, I documented the details of my situation and this solution on a Squidoo lens (link below)! Check it out for more information. This was an easy affordable product solution to a big problem I know many people have with their laptops overheating. Even if you’re not experiencing random shut downs like I was, overheating can potentially cause more damage to your laptop too.[...]

A Poor Product – Better Fans Available for the Same Price
By R. Garrelts
My wife and I both own laptops and thus have separate laptop cooling fans for both of our machines. I was specifically interested in this Belkin CoolSpot Cooling Pad for my wife’s 15.6″ laptop. After using this device for a few days it is being retired to our technology bone yard in the basement where it’ll linger until we either give it away or recycle the device years from now.For the price I cannot fathom why Belkin would design such a cheaply made and poor performing device. If you read nothing else then just be aware that there are much better products available right here on Amazon for roughly the same price or in some cases less than what Belkin is asking for this cooling pad.First the form factor is small. Even my wife’s standard 15.6″, very thin Samsung laptop hangs over all sides of this cooling pad. It’s like Belkin intended this pad to be used by netbook owners. Suffice to say that trying to work while balancing a laptop on top of a smaller device isn’t fun or practical.Construction quality is almost non-existent. It’s cheap plastic, the kind that shatters or cracks when dropped. The feet aren’t retractable or adjustable in any way and are built-in at a present angle. There isn’t a power switch of any kind so as soon as you plug the USB in the fan is running. Offhand I can think of many problems with Belkin’s poor design choices. One, the footprint of this cooling fan is more than doubled because the feet aren’t retractable thus making portability a problem in laptop bags. Second, not all uses require heavy processing and extra cooling for a laptop so there are times when using the fan is just using extra battery life. A simple power switch would’ve solved that but not so with this device you’re forced to pull the plug.Poor design continues to the fan itself which is placed right in the middle of the pad and is very, very small. I measured the temperature drop under heavy processing on my HP dv7 laptop with a Core i7 processor and 1gb graphics card with this fan and measured no tangible effect on temperature at all.Mercifully the fan is at least quiet and features 11-blades to keep air flowing smoothly. The rubber grips do their job and prevent the laptop from sliding off the angled surface. If you’re interested in a serious laptop cooling solution then visit products made by other manufacturers such as Cooler Master.Avoid this product.

Very effective, but didn’t last long under rough conditions
By Denise Patterson
I work from home, and my poor laptop takes a lot of abuse. I usually have video going with my work, and my work laptop is usually going from 6AM to 10PM, so my laptop gets hot and stays hot. This cooling pad did a MUCH better job than any other cooling pad I’ve tried. The bottom left corner of the bottom of my laptop gets a little warm, and that’s it – before the entire bottom of the laptop got hot enough to be uncomfortable if I touched it. The only bad thing about it was that the fan burned out after a couple of months. Now, obviously, I’m a worst-case scenario – not many people have their laptops as hot as mine and on as often as mine, so I would not expect this cooling pad to burn out if you use it normally. Still, I was happy enough with this that I bought a second one after the first one broke!
