Cute movie and my kids will still eat turkey.
By New England Mamma
We saw this movie around Thanksgiving and it was enjoyed by the whole family. We will add this to our library of movies we don’t mind rewatching a few times with the kids. While it’s no Tangled or Shrek, it’s entertaining. And to those whining about the underlying message being subliminal advertising from PETA and that they are trying to turn our kids into vegetarians, you are idiots. It’s a kids movie. It’s funny. Period. I still have two very carnivorous children after watching this movie. No pizza for thanksgiving in our house.

Soapbox not included

If you are looking for a review of this movie to support or reject your thanksgiving meal, and not of a movie, please scroll up or down. I cannot comment on what you should eat and neither does this film. For people with an agenda: (if you thought “Charlottes Web” meant you should or should not eat pork), there are appropriate forums for this debate, and unfortunately, this isn’t it. It seems like people are looking for an opportunity to debate meat eating with the “other side”. This movie, in itself, does not reference the topic any more (perhaps less) than a movie like babe, barnyard, ect. Instead I think that “FreeBird’s” is a very solid and well crafted movie. I think it’s biggest “flaw” (if you want to consider it that) is the even, almost laid-back tone of the movie, that may be considered “slow”, especially by Americans, used to a faster paced cinematic experience (myself included). It’s funny though…this movie had none of the hyper-kinetic energy of my 5yr. old’s favorite shows…still he rocked gently back and forth, laughing out loud at the shows slapstick comedy, never taking his eyes off the screen. And at the end he jumped up happily, hugging me and thanking me for buying this movie. As for me, I thoroughly enjoyed it, though it relys on a traditional formula and is rather unremarkable artistically. The writing is good but not outstanding. The voice over work is very good and well adapted to the script. The animation itself is beautiful, but subject to the same limitations of all CGI, which, especially in feature length films, seems a little “plastic”. This can work in pictures like “toy story”, but does not easily “lend itelf” to people and animals. All in all I felt my money was well spent.

8 and 4 year olds loved it. parents too!
We brought our 8 yo boy and 4 yo girl to see this. They loved it. There were quite a few really funny parts, the first time machine sequence is hilarious and the chicks are adorable. Great movie for our family. Mom and dad enjoyed it a lot too.
